LearnPath video case study – St Ursula’s College

Elizabeth Lansdown,
Resource and Information Coordinator

Elizabeth shares how she is collaborating with teaching staff to produce guides and using LearnPath to provide a one-stop-shop for library resources.

The LearnPath Community Content Hub (LCCH) has also been valuable. Curated by experienced Teacher librarians, the LCCH has provided ready-made content guides that can be hidden until needed or adapted to suit their needs. It has also but also because it provided inspiration for potential guides - beyond just research.

Join Elizabeth as she answers the following questions:

  • What role does or could LearnPath play in student research/learning at St Ursula’s College? (0:06)
  • How have teachers responded to the guides you are creating? And how do you collaborate with teaches on guide content? (0.40)
  • What are the main benefits of LearnPath? (1:03)
  • How do you use the LearnPath Community Content Hub? (1:31)

What role does or could LearnPath play in student research/learning at St Ursula’s College?

Well, I started experimenting with LearnPath over the last 12 to 18 months really, with a few teachers.

Then I took the opportunity to run a twilight session with some people who were interested, and that really helped get the ball rolling showing the potential.

So, it’s still early days at my school but I really see LearnPath developing into the one-stop-shop for student research and for access to all our library online resources.

How have teachers responded to the guides you are creating? And how do you collaborate with teaches on guide content?

I have one-on-one meetings with the teachers that are interested where we go through the tasks that they’re wanting the girls to research.

I get a clear idea of the goals and types of information they want, we share content, and go from there.

What are the main benefits of LearnPath?

I really see the benefits in pulling all my library resources into one place.

Some things are in Oliver at the moment, some things are on the intranet, and it can be a little bit difficult for the students to know where to find things, even the staff.

So, I think the benefit is that we should get good value out of the money that we pay for our resources to provide an easy access point.

How do you use the LearnPath Community Content Hub?

Being part of Sydney Catholic schools, the Content Hub information was uploaded to our LearnPath sites last year.

I went through it, I’ve hidden some of the guides that aren’t relevant yet, and I’ve adapted some of them.

It was really wonderful to see some of the varieties of layout and to see how I can make my guides look. I’ll definitely be keeping an eye on them in future.

It also gave me some inspiration that it’s not just research, there’s well-being, there’s reading, there’s so many topics that we can create guides for.
