The Cambodian Children’s Fund (CCF) is committed to transforming the lives of children from the former Steung Meanchey dumpsite. By providing education, CCF lifts these children out of poverty, opening doors to a future filled with hope and opportunity.
Through long-term investments in children, CCF is helping students develop the skills, confidence, and integrity needed to become community leaders and break the cycle of poverty for generations.
The CCF library at Neeson Cripps Academy serves as a resource hub for students and staff, housing a diverse collection of 10,116 books, predominantly in English. Managed using the Oliver system, it includes textbooks, reference materials, periodicals, and journals. The library also features 497 short story videos and 5 E-books.
The CCF library operates from 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday to Saturday. It caters to approximately 394 students and 89 staff members, providing a safe and welcoming environment for reading and research.
Menghour and Sav are committed teachers at Neeson Cripps Academy who assisted with the integration of Oliver into the academy. Their dedication to teaching and passion for creating a love of learning has made them a great asset to the Neeson Academy.

Have you noticed any changes in students’ reading habits or literacy skills since the implementation of Oliver?
Students come to the library more often than before, as they can access a wide range of books, including fiction, nonfiction, reference materials, and educational resources. The more they read, the more they know. As a result, they understand general knowledge and can express themselves more confidently.

How do you collaborate with staff to ensure Oliver v5 meets students’ evolving needs and aligns with CCF goals?
We use monthly school meetings to collaborate and exchange ideas regarding the library system and reading activities. This is a good platform to discuss ways to improve, innovate, and adapt to changing needs. All teachers and education staff regularly provide updates on students' and teachers' needs.
Pisey joined CCF when he was six years old. His mother was raising Pisey and his younger brother alone after their father abandoned the family. She worked as a trash collector to support her family and struggled in poverty. Sometimes, Pisey would join his mom in scavenging on the streets to earn money for food.

I usually use my school's library time slot to work on a research project. I use the library system to access a variety of academic journals, books, and other resources related to our topic.
With the library's databases and the Oliver v5 system, I can find relevant materials to support my research, deepen my understanding of the subject matter, and enhance my learning experience.
How do you feel when you’re able to borrow books or resources from the library?
It’s like a sense of excitement and anticipation like I feel when I go on a trip. Reading is like going on an adventure, journey, or discovery. A book can take you anywhere, and you can take a book anywhere with you. It also makes me feel empowered, knowing I have information and knowledge in my hand.
What is your favourite thing about your school library?
I really love that it offers free educational resources for me and other students to improve themselves by reading. The quiet atmosphere allows me to focus, and the library gives me the opportunity to discover new books and ideas. It’s also a place to build new friendships through a shared love of reading, giving me the confidence to communicate with others. There are also laptops available for me to use for schoolwork and assignments. I do not have a laptop of my own to use, so it is very helpful.
Can you tell me about a book you’ve read that taught you something important or made you see the world differently?
It’s a Khmer book called ‘Good Leader’ that teaches you how to be a good leader. I learned that you can be a strong person with politeness. It means you can be a person with power but still treat people politely. Loyalty is also very important for your daily routine. The last lesson is about the challenges of a problem. To be a good leader, you must face the problem and find a solution to turn it into a better situation.
